Samora Okech Sanga aka Samora Sanga is an artist, director, designer hailing from Uganda.
He is one of the many creatives who are reviving the creative scene in Uganda with their bold, defiant and expressive style of fashion. But before we go anywhere how about we go back to where his story started, I'll lead the way.....

He began this journey two years ago in 2023 when he organised his first collection with the help of a fellow artist he worked with for this. And he told us that based on the success he had with it, he decided to make it a permanent thing. Basing on the success of his last showcase, LAST THREE MOVES. We here at theCruize decided to reach out to him and bring his story to you as part of our CruizeRadar Class of '25 series.

On asking him where he sources his creative element from he told us that he believes and uses the metaphor, "Kill King Kronos" which refers to the concept and practice based on the spiritual idea of ego death. That to reach new heights one must kill their old concepts of knowledge and create new paths for the next generation. Which is quite interesting to hear as on seeing his works one notices how such a critical thinker he is and the way he pays attention to each and every detail which personally I noticed and found quite impressive.

Well as we all know the creative space in Uganda is still very laid back so its quite difficult for such young creative minds to easily impress and overthrow the status quo in that space as everyone has their laid back idea on how art is to be expressed making it hard to flourish in such an environment. And on asking Samora about the challenges of being a creative in the country, he acknowledged it and said that it is quite difficult in fact as most times he feels like an outsider in many respects. And in particular his choice of profession as he doesn't feel at home because it seems that his thoughts and ideas do not subscribe to traditional postmodern thinking about the continent. He goes on to state that through a series of life lessons learned and unlearned he has discovered other facets of the self and art is simultaneously coloured and framed by the world he has created and grown up in.

When asked about what he plans to do next he said possibly more amazing collections and art showcases but we'll see and honestly as the world we can't wait to see what superstar move he does next. This was Samora Sanga for cruizemag. don't forget the name. It is impressive to see whats happening in the scene right now but one thing is clear that at this rate Uganda's scene will be very impressive as this generation of creatives are bold, fearless and with the cutting edge and high affinity for high quality work.
